“What are you going to do, Austin?” The girl asked late that night. She lay on the carpeted floor, curled up in her blanket. Her cousin was bunking on the bed that night. It was dark in the bedroom and the door just slightly open. The young girl knew that the funeral was early the next morning and that everyone else was resting for the challenging day creeping up. It seemed to the girl that Austin was reluctant to answer her question, and was nearly ready to join the house in resting. Austin then cut through the darkness turning on the lamp. He looked directly into the girls hazel eyes and told her with confidence, “It doesn’t matter what I’m doing tomorrow; whatever you decide to do I promise I’ll support you. But hey, he isn’t going to be angry or disappointed if you don’t see him. He loves you, remember that.” He reminded the girl. “I know that I don’t want to see him tomorrow, I know that I can live with the memories I have of him, and that I don’t want to see him in the casket. But, if seeing grandpa for one last time is what’s going to help you, I will be there for you!” With tears crawling down the girl’s innocent cheeks she said to her cousin, “It’s going to be so hard though, I don’t know…” Austin replied calmly, “Yes it is, but I’m here no matter what, you’re not alone.” Austin in that moment formed a sentence the girl would cherish eternally...
